Miami Havana head coach Frankie Ruiz was honored as Joe Newton Coach of the Year at Nike Cross Nationals after his boys program finished fourth in the 5-kilometer championship race with 187 points at Glendoveer Golf Course in Oregon. The group from Belen Jesuit Prep captured a seventh consecutive state title and 15th overall in Florida, along with winning the Nike Southeast Regional crown less than 48 hours later in North Carolina. Ruiz was honored as Joe Newton Coach of the Year after leading Miami Havana to the best performance by a Florida boys lineup in meet history, improving from a 14th-place performance last season.
